Beepers

Beepers

__Before, beepers meant drug deals and gang activities. Schools prohibited students from bringing beepers to school. There is a law in New Jersey, Michigan, Virginia, and many other states that students who bring a beeper to school could go to jail or get suspended. I don't think beepers should be banned. I don't agree with this law, because beepers don't mean drug deals or gang activity now, it was just before.

__If everyone in the school carries a beeper that doesn't mean everyone is a drug dealer or gangster. Some students carry beepers because it's easier for their parents to reach them. In the article the author says, "If parents need to reach their children in an emergency, they can always call the school office." In my opinion, not most of the parents can speak English, so it is useless to call to the office. It would take very long for the school to find out the information or what class the student is in. Most of the parents can not provide the information of their children. For example, they don't know the official classes or their ID numbers. If the school didn't get this information, they would be unable to find the student. The beepers now are very functional. They have alarm, they can tell the time. Students can use it as a memo to note down their homework assignments and other important data. Beepers are also infrared, people can use them to communicate like sending E-mail. If you say that beepers can interrupt the class, the ringing of the telephone in the classroom also interrupts the class. You can't stop the telephone from ringing, but you can set the beeper into vibrating mode.

__In my opinion, students should bring their beepers to school. Maybe beepers will be as useful as an organizer. Maybe students would us it to store homework assignments or use it as a calculator.
